J.J. McCarthy's Rookie Season Cut Short by Injury

The injury, suffered during the preseason, marks a significant setback for the first-round draft pick and the Vikings organization. Notably, McCarthy becomes the first quarterback selected in the first round since the common draft era began in 1967 to miss his entire rookie season due to injury.

While other first-round quarterbacks have spent their rookie year on the sidelines, their absences were due to being behind established starters rather than a pre-season injury. Jordan Love sat behind Aaron Rodgers in 2020, and Jason Campbell backed up Mark Brunel and Patrick Ramsey in 2005.

McCarthy's absence leaves a void in the Vikings' quarterback room and forces the team to adjust its plans for the upcoming season.
