Noah Lyles’ collapse with Covid: How not to manage health at the Olympics
Noah Lyles: Gold, Bronze, and a Sick Athlete
Noah Lyles, a fast runner from Florida, had a big week at the Olympics in Paris. He won a gold medal in a very close race for the 100-meter dash. A few days later, he got a bronze medal in the 200-meter race. But after that race, he felt so bad he needed help to get off the track.
Lyles said that the people who run the Olympics and the doctors on the team care more about the games than about the athletes’ health. He said this because he ran the 200-meter race even though he was sick with COVID-19.
Lyles woke up feeling very sick on the day of the 200-meter race. He had a sore throat, his body hurt, and he felt cold. He took a test for COVID-19 and it was positive. Even though he was sick, he decided to race anyway.
Lyles said it was risky to run because he has asthma, and people with asthma can get very sick from COVID-19
